I would like to have the ability to instantly create a Task List Template from an existing Task List.
At the moment, I have to copy and paste one task at a time in to the Template. This suggested feature would allow users to refine their Task List and once satisfied that it is fit for purpose and likely to be used again, be used to create a Template.
For example, I have recently been working on a 'Training Design and Delivery' Task List which has approximately 50 subtasks. Now that I have refined the Task List and am happy to use this as a Template going forward, I would like to have a 'one click' option to create a Template rather than having to copy and paste 50 subtasks.
Did you know that we recently added the ability to copy any task, task list or workspace? This would help you if what you need is just to copy the description and subtasks from every task. Often times we need to record information that is pertinent to all tasks in a task list and that will be used by multiple people to complete their assigned tasks in the task list. Currently there is no description for task lists. We would like to see a description (and possibly comments) added to the task list itself so that there is one repository for all of the relevant information.
Currently we make a dummy task and give it the label of "hub" so that people know where to go to find more information when they are working on their own task. This isn't ideal.
At the moment when you are making multi stage task templates you can assign different due dates to the task. But usually some tasks are slaves to others. ie, they don't start until another task is completed and so: Task B is due 5 days after the completion of Task A. While I can set the due date to 5 days later, it does not dynamically change if Task A is not completed on time. It would be great if you could build these dependencies so that task B did not start until task A was completed, and was then due 5 days later. It would be so much more powerful, and stop staff task dashboards being cluttered with tasks that they cannot complete, or aren't yet active.
It would be great to be able to create numerous task list templates, and then be able to combine these individual task list templates to create a new task list.
For example, have a task list template to create a brochure, another one to create a banner, another one to organise merchandise for a promotion, another one to update a website etc.
These can then be used on their own for a new project, or combine some/all to create a task list that can be used for a special event or project.
At the moment, I am creating a task list template that includes everything for a promotion or event, and then having to delete out the tasks that I don't need for that particular one (no banner required etc).
When you have made several templates the naming protocols don't make it easy to find which template you are looking for. If you could arrange different templates into folders that relate to the different task types, this would make organisation much clearer.
This was a feature that has already been requested but was mistakenly marked as completed:
"When creating a Template Task, or when improving upon a Template Task, have the ability to drag and drop the subtasks in the desired order, in the same way that we're able to do in a task that is in a Workspace."
To save time I would like to have the option of building out a task list in a project and once completed make that task list a template by clicking the pencil icon in the upper right. We have several projects that use the same
development process and would find this much more efficient when I sit down with my global teams and build projects together.
My idea for Redbooth would be to add a deeper level of subtasks to the templating system. Currently, you can only create 2-3 levels deep on each task template. If redbooth was able to create a task that allowed 4-5 sublevels deep with tasks that would be awesome. The reason for this: The digital (inbound) marketing community has a real need for a project management software that allows them to create templates that have this many levels deep. The goal is to create a repeatable process where an inbound marketer can select a premade template that walks them through all of the tasks for a 3 month period. Having this in one template and not 8-10 templates would be astounding.
The first company to achieve a project management system that is tailored to the inbound marketing community globally wins. Currently, this community of inbound marketing agencies has a growth rate of 40% annually and climbing. The potential to market this to inbound and other types of marketing agency is huge.
I am selfish for suggesting this because I run an inbound marketing agency that is partnered with HUBSPOT corporation and I have seen the struggle first hand, how agencies and users have not found a solution (project management software) that can do this.
